Why Belgian Blue
Ease of calving In crossing with Black and White cows of the Friesian type, the proportion of difficult calving is easier than that experienced with other large sized continental beef breeds. In the crossbred suckler herd, ease of calving is comparable with the use of other terminal sires and the Belgian Blue can be used with complete confidence.
Stature The weight of an adult bull ranges from 1100 and 1250kg for a height at the withers of 1.45m to 1.50m. It is by no means rare to see animals of more than 1300kg. The average weight of an adult cow at the beginning of gestation is between 700 and 750kg, with a height at the withers of 1.32m to 1.34m. Cows can reach a weight of 850 to 900kg and can exceed 1.40m.
Carcase The Belgian Blue carcase produces a high yield of saleable meat with a boning out % in excess of 85%.
