CROSS BREEDING
Devon cows make ideal suckler cows being medium sized, good milking, quiet mothers able to convert forage into good weaning weights. These cows crossed with a continental terminal sire produce a quick growing calf that retains the 'marbling' in the carcase when finished, thus giving progeny access to the gourmet beef market . Devon bulls are noted for their fertility and ease of calving. They have traditionally been used in the dairy herd with the resulting black steer or heifer much demanded by extensive grass finishing cattlemen and as a superb suckler cow prized by the marginal land suckled calf producers.
