Broadmeadows Cannon, the most prolific sire in British Limousin pedigree cattle history As at December 31st 2001, a total of 2485 pedigree Limousin calves sired by Broadmeadows Cannon, had been registered in the British Limousin Herd Book. Until the end of last year, the most popular pedigree sire had been Fanfaron, a French-bred bull which had been in the original consignment of imported Limousins in December 1970. Fanfaron's total at the end of last year was 2076.
Cannon, born August 19th 1987, was bred by Crighton Farms (Douglas) at Broadmeadows in Berwickshire. He boasted a pedigree of some of the most famous names in the history of the Limousin breed.
Cannon had a Beef Value in the top ten per cent of the breed. His pedigree and commercial progeny, and grand- progeny have won some of the very highest U.K. show honours. Here are a few recent examples.
- 1996 - a Cannon daughter - Windsole Julia, won the Royal Highland supreme championship as a heifer
- 1999 - a Cannon son - Millbrook Lancelot, won the Royal Show supreme championship and teamed up with Ronick Janita to win the Burke Trophy.
- 2000 - Millbrook Lancelot won the Royal Highland supreme championship, was a member of the victorious Interbreed team and won the Interbreed individual championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon son - Laverock Nimrod, won the Royal Show supreme championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon son - Ronick One, won the Royal Highland Marks and Spencer Young Bull championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon grandson (by Redpaths Jaguar) - Llystyn Percy, won the Royal Welsh Elite Junior Bull championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon son - "Aftershock", won the Scottish Winter Fair supreme championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon grand daughter (by Ronick Hawk), Taylor Maid, was reserve to Aftershock a couple of months after winning the Royal Highland supreme championship.
- 2000 - a Cannon grandson (by Ronick Hawk), "Danny Boy", won the Smithfield Show supreme champions
